Reliance MET City: Inside India’s Fastest-Growing Industrial Smart City
If you’re tracking real estate and industrial investment in the Delhi-NCR region, one name keeps coming up: Reliance MET City. Spread across roughly 8,250 acres in Jhajjar district, Haryana, Reliance MET City is a master-planned development combining industrial, residential and commercial infrastructure, developed by Model Economic Township Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
What Makes Reliance MET City Different
Unlike a typical industrial park, Reliance MET City has been built around an integrated “walk-to-work” philosophy. With 400+ industrial customers and a walk-to-work masterplan, MET City has positioned itself as one of the fastest-growing greenfield smart cities in North India. The city blends manufacturing, business, and residential life into a single planned ecosystem rather than isolating them into separate zones.
That model has attracted serious global attention. The township now hosts more than 540 companies from 10 countries, and its achievements include the Most Sustainable City award from FICCI and the Best Integrated Business City Award from Naredco. By mid-2026, the number of companies had grown past 650, spanning 11 countries including Japan.
A Magnet for Global Manufacturing
Reliance MET City has built a particularly strong reputation among Japanese manufacturers. Panasonic, Denso, T-Suzuki, and Nihon Kohden are among the Japanese companies that have set up operations there, with Nihon Kohden establishing its largest manufacturing facility in India at the site. European players have followed suit — BEUMER Group inaugurated a new manufacturing facility at MET City in December 2025, marking a roughly ₹200 crore investment and BEUMER’s first plant in India.
Major Infrastructure Push in 2026
This year has brought a wave of fresh commitments. Reliance Industries signed an agreement with the Haryana government to invest ₹8,646 crore in the township project at Jhajjar, aimed at building a self-sustaining economic hub near the national capital. The deal was formalized through two MoUs signed during the launch of Haryana’s Make in Haryana Industrial Policy 2026, with the state targeting a total of ₹5 lakh crore in investment across sectors.
Connectivity is central to this next phase. Five major infrastructure projects are converging on the MET City corridor: the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor, a Gati Shakti multi-modal cargo terminal, a six-lane NHAI stretch from Pataudi Road to Jhajjar, the Gurugram-Farrukhnagar road widening project, and the doubling of the Garhi Harsaru-Farrukhnagar rail line. Together, these projects promise to shrink travel times into the NCR and give the region genuine logistics muscle.
Growth in Numbers
The township’s expansion has been consistent year over year. In FY 2022-23 alone, MET City welcomed 450 companies and seven international brands, sold over 2,000 residential plots, and added 76 new industrial companies representing around ₹1,200 crore in investment and employment potential for up to 8,000 people. Cumulatively, the project has attracted significant investment and created employment for more than 25,000 people.
Residential Expansion: Metropolis by MET City
It’s not just industry. In early 2026, the developer launched a new residential-industrial project called Metropolis. Metropolis by MET City is a large-scale integrated development at Daryapur in Jhajjar district, part of a 140-acre master plan with around 100 acres launched in its current phase, offering residential plots between 112 and 179 square yards alongside industrial plots. The location sits close to AIIMS Badsa, the upcoming Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor, and the proposed BCCI International Cricket Stadium.
Leadership for the Next Phase
Reliance MET City has also been investing in leadership to match its scale. A new appointment places an experienced real estate operator at the centre of the project, combining development execution, investment attraction and strategic expansion — reflecting how integrated these large township projects have become.
Why It Matters
Reliance MET City is emerging as one of the clearest examples of how private infrastructure development is reshaping India’s industrial map. With billions in fresh capital commitments, a growing base of global manufacturers, upcoming rail and road connectivity, and now a residential arm to match, MET City is positioning Jhajjar as one of the most closely watched growth corridors in the NCR.
